Parc des Princes, Paris, 21.06.2016
1-0 (1-0)
Gómez 29. / –
Germany confirmed their place at the top of the group table with a convincing yet deceptively narrow 1-0 win over Northern Ireland in Paris, the two teams’ first meeting in major tournament competition since the World Cup finals in Sweden in 1958. Mario Gómez’s goal looked to have opened the floodgates for a free-flowing German side, but Northern Irish ‘keeper Michael McGovern produced an inspired performance to keep his team in the game right until the end.
